Pond Salt

Salt is categorized as of “low regulatory concern” by the FDA and has many uses in fish medicine including destruction of single-celled protozoans and management of osmoregulation. Salinity is typically measured as parts per thousand (ppt) or g/L (note that 1 ppt = 1 g/L). Seawater is typically 32–37 ppt salt. By increasing or decreasing the amount of salt to which a freshwater or marine fish is exposed, osmoregulatory stress can be minimized and many parasites eliminated.
